DMK contests 21, Congress 9 in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry LS seats

Of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, DMK will contest from 21, Congress 9, VCK 2, CPI(M) 2, CPI- 2 and CPI 2, and MDMK, KMDK and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will contest one each Lok Sabha seats. Puducherry Lok Sabha seat will go to Congress.

Ruling DMK on March 18, Monday revealed the specific constituencies that would be contested by its key ally. The DMK also designated the Tiruchirappalli constituency to the Vaiko-led Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), currently represented by the Congress party’s Su Thirunavukkarasar

 

DMK’s 21 seats:  

Chennai North,  Chennai South,  Chennai Central,  Sriperumbudur,  Arakkonam,  Kancheepuram (SC),   Tiruvannamalai, . Vellore, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi,  Salem,  Pollachi,  Nilgiris (SC),  Coimbatore,  Theni,  Arani,  Perambalur,  Erode,   Thanjavur,  Tenkasi (SC), Thoothukudi

 

Congress’  9 seats

Tiruvallur (SC), Krishnagiri,  Karur,  Cuddalore,  Mayiladuthurai,  Sivaganga,  Virudhunagar,  Kanniyakumari,  Tirunelveli,

And one from Puducherry

 

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK)’s 2 seats:

Chidambaram (SC),  Villupuram (SC)

 

CPI(M)’s 2 seats::

Madurai, Dindigul

CPI’s  2 seats: 

Tiruppur, Nagapattinam (SC)

MDMK from Tiruchirapalli, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katch (KMDK): from  Namakkal (on Rising Sun symbol) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), 40. Ramanathapuram

 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the DMK-led alliance clinched a resounding victory, securing 38 out of 39 seats. The Congress, a key part of this coalition, won eight seats out of the nine it contested. With a vote share of 33.2 per cent for the DMK and 12.9 per cent for the Congress, the alliance got significant support.

In contrast, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), managed to secure only one seat.
