Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 11 years of his government rule since 2014 and entered 12th year. I thought of summing up this decade plus years, one short sentence comes to mind – he covered from welfare to warfare. If the first year of his first term and second term, were marked by fighting hunger and utter poverty and Covid virus induced economic suffering, the latter years marked by strengthening India’s military power – power in warfare.
The Modi government marked the completion of one year in its third term and 11 years in office overall on June 7, 2025. Based on official data, here are 11 notable accomplishments from 2014 to 2025 that have shaped India’s trajectory over the past decade under the BJP-led NDA government.
Over the past 11 years, the Modi government has expanded its welfare outreach to historically underserved communities. 81 crore people have been receiving free food grains under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, while over 12 crore toilets have been built under Swachh Bharat. A report released by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also notes that 15 crore households now have tap water connections, and more than 4 crore homes have been completed under PMAY.
Financial empowerment has also been a focus—over 52 crore loans have been given under the Mudra Yojana, 68 lakh street vendors were supported through PM SVANidhi, and 20 crore women received cash transfers during the Covid lockdown. Notably, 60 per cent of current ministers are from SC, ST, or OBC communities, and 112 aspirational districts have shown development progress above the state average.
New wings to hopes of Indians
As the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government completed 11 years in power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the government’s focus throughout has been on improving the lives of the poor and delivering development for all. The milestone also marked one year of PM Modi’s third term as Prime Minister.
In a statement issued on the occasion, PM Modi said that schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi, and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi have given “new wings to the hopes” of Indians. “Every effort in these 11 years has been made with devotion and a service spirit to ease the lives of citizens,” he added.
Over 50 departments of various ministries came up with list of achievements in the last 11 years and it is literally difficult to present them all at one place, in a single article. Both the pluses and minuses of his 11 year rule deserves detailed analyses and deeper understanding. His rivals are more than angry with him for the ultra nationalism or soft Hindutwa he brought in the country, his supporters and vote base hail these years as the golden era in the history of India.
We need to take a step back to judge either of these claims. He will, of course, be in power for another four years – till June 2029. I think, a lot will be done in the next four years in the current direction. Are we ready to take this?
