Why ‘condemning Pahalgam’ is not enough for India

Pahalgam

Condemning Pahalgam terror attack by international community is not enough for India. Though Indian political and bureaucratic leadership is trying very hard to mobilize global support to nailing the provocative terror attack which claimed 27 lives in this April, we may not much achieve any mileage against Pakistan a country we believe is behind the attack.

This has been the focus of our efforts for the last 10 weeks since the attack happened. Irony is that securing world countries condemning Pahalgam is not resulting in linking it to Pakistan or even Pakistan based terror groups. All our efforts have been going waste to this extent. Everyone is condemning the terror attack or even offering condolences to bereaved families.

Still they maintain good relations with Pakistan. Mother of all ironies is that even Pakistan too condemned Pahalgam attack within hours after the attacks. But Pakistan distanced itself from the incident and termed it as a work of Kahmir based terror elements. It happened on Indian soil by Indians – is the line of argument of Pakistan. Though The Resistance Forum, supposedly backed by Pakistan based Jibad groups and military establishment, initially claimed responsibility for Pahalgam, India couldn’t till date file detailed evidence on the crime.

This is advantageous to Pakistan. At every forum including the UN, Pakistan has been saying that they were unfairly attacked by India  through Operation Sindoor for Pahalgam attack. Taking the attack as an advantage, Pakistan told the US and other countries that they want an impartail investigation into the terror attack –  that means, dragging India to the international forum – on Kashmir issue. This is clearly unacceptable to India. A time tested national policy.

BRICS too  will condemn

The BRICS summit at Rio De Janeiro in Brazil on July 7 will condemn Pahalgam attack in its declaration. But, India will not get any extra mileage out of that declaration, excepting for getting some solace on the home front. We should not forget that BRICS has China and Iran, two countries with closer ties with Pakistan. Merely ensuring formal condemnation of Pahalgam terror attack on global forums will not be of much help to India, unless they clearly mention Pakistan by name and blame the country for the attack.
