In a moment of pride, in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, Government of India, released the tenth edition of its prestigious institutional rankings. IIT Hyderabad (IITH) has achieved a significant milestone by advancing to the 7th position in NIRF Engineering, moving up from 8th last year.

IITH is continuing its legacy as a Top 10 technical institute for the tenth consecutive year. By reaching 7th rank, IITH has crossed one of the first generation IITs, for the first time. Furthermore, IITH achieved the 6th rank in NIRF-Innovation, while retaining its 15th position in NIRF-Research and 12th in NIRF-Overall, said a press release from IITH on September 5..

IITH strong in strategic focus

IITH’s strong performance reflects its strategic focus on interdisciplinary education, cutting-edge research, and alignment with key national missions. This year’s rankings highlight: 7th Rank in NIRF-Engineering, 6th Rank in NIRF-Innovation, 15th Rank in NIRF-Research, 12th Rank in NIRF-Overall.

Prof. B. S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, expressed his happiness at this achievement, said, “Securing the 7th rank in NIRF-Engineering is not just a recognition of our past efforts, but a powerful motivation to further diversify and intensify our academic, research, and innovation initiatives.

This is the first time ever since NIRF ranks have been introduced, IITH, a second generation IIT, has entered into the elite club of top 7 engineering institutions in India, which used to be reserved for the 7 first generation IITs, so far. At IITH, our vision goes beyond rankings — we are building an institution that contributes meaningfully to India’s aspirations under national missions such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India, and Viksit Bharat@2047, said Prof Murty.

Our pioneering interdisciplinary BTech programs, world-class research in semiconductors, sustainable energy, artificial intelligence, and our strong emphasis on entrepreneurship are creating a future-ready ecosystem where innovation thrives. We are nurturing talent that can address global challenges while serving national priorities, said Prof Murty.

With this momentum, I am confident that IITH will continue to achieve many more laurels in the coming years and scale even greater heights in research, innovation, and education” said Prof Murty, said the press release.
