We at Excel India regularly post the photos of BRS Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar to encourage youth and students to take to nature photography. He has been taking pics of birds and wildlife every Sunday as part of his Happy Sunday and weekly dose of photography campaign for the last few months. This Sunday, March 5, Santosh got a pair of beautiful tiny birds perched on tree branches and tweeted.

Some of our friends with knowledge on birds told us that these pics are of Meijiro, or warbling white-eye birds in his Nikon 850 camera. These birds are of Japanese origin and they also called Japanese white-eyes (Zosterops Japonicus) and some call them Mountain white-eye. Some birds of this species commonly found in India are called with local names. Most they are colorful, light yellow or greenish-yellow.

They control pest

Of course, like most of the bird species, these Meijiros too are now a rare sight. As they are too small in size and flight, they cannot stand competition with bigger avian. These tiny birds depend on insects and leafy worms. Their presence mostly serve us to control pests.  Their presence tells us the richness of flora and fauna in a particular geography. We can assume that Hyderabad city and surroundings of Telangana forests are still their habitat.

In Japan, some of their colourful species are kept in cages and train to mimic human voices, to entertain children. But, in other parts of Asia, where they migrated long ago, they are free, mostly living on trees. They make nests, above 25 meters of ground during breeding seasons. Better we not disturb them during this time. We must encourage our children to take snaps of these cuties.
