Speakers at a seminar held at Telangana Horticulture University said that universities should grow as centers of intellectual property rights and every aspect of daily life is linked to some intellectual property right. Speakers said that researchers and students will have a good future if they look at patent and copyright issues in every research and academic aspect to excel in the competitive world, and if they are creative, there are plenty of opportunities to get patents from pencils to airplanes.
Experts on intellectual property rights spoke in a seminar organized jointly by Telangana State Horticultural University IPR Cell and Telangana State council of Science and Technology under the Intellectual Property Rights Awareness program on intellectual property rights aspects for commercialization in the field of horticulture in Telangana, organized at the Horticultural College in Mojerla, Wanaparthi districtdistrict.
Dr. M. Rajasekhar, Dean of Horticulture, Telanagan state Horticultural University, who attended the conference as the guest of honour, said that creativity in research should be used to find solutions to the problems faced by farmers in the field. Dr. Rajasekhar said that in the future the varsity will focus on geographical identification for the horticulture crops that have the potential for patents and geographical indications in Telangana state.
Telangana suitable for GI products
On this occasion, the geographical indications of Telangana state, suitable elements for identifications for their geographical identification, the method of obtaining GI is concerned and other details of already recognized GI products, apply are explained by Mr. Subhajit Saha, Head, legal and IPR, Resolute group. Subhajit saha delivered the keynote lecture on Geographical indications in Telangana state and copyrights.
On this occasion he said. .. Geographical Indications in products and crops obtained are realising 30% higher profits from market prices. He explained that they are another eight to ten horticultural crops eligible and comply for GI registration for which Universities, Farmers, Govt. Should come together for data generation and application, Mr. Subhajit Saha told.
Patentable inventions, non-patentable subject matter, do’s and dont”s of patent along with indian patent system, fees and procedure to apply a patent are explained by Dr. Radhika Vangala, Project scientist of Telangana State Council of Science and Technology who is helping for 15 universities in the state on patent matters.
Horticultural crops eligible for geographical identification recognition in Telangana state, their characteristics, areas under cultivation, geographical conditions, as well as registration of germplasm with the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights are explained by Associate Dean, College of Horticulture and University IPR Cell Nodal Officer Dr. Pidigam Saidaiah, whi delivered the lectures.
