Rama Krishna Sangem
BRS Rajya Sabha former member and Green India Challenge founder J Santosh Kumar continued his passion for bird photography every Sunday. This week, he trained his lens on a beautiful Indigo Bunting perched on a lush green tree branch. Needless to say, Santosh has a fan following on X where he posted the pics, rain or shine, not less than 2,600 views and a 120 likes, by evening. @Heeresh Dubey says, it is Verditer Flycatcher bird!@
This is a good trend that he he is watched on X just as he watched through his lens the colourful birds in green environs of in and around Hyderabad. Take for example, these Indigo Bunting birds – which are considered most beautiful household birds. They are small yet cute and agile birds in domestic environs. Belonging to Passarine spies of birds, these are of various hues and sizes and shapes too.
Some are of total indigo while others with streaks and mixed coloured. Stated to be of the origin of American continent, these tiny beauties are now spread all over, due to their migratory nature. In India too they can be seen aplenty. People try hared to woo them to their backyards by placing seeds and grains for feeding. In some areas, they are worshiped for their so called ability to spot water bodies.
Need to preserve these birds
If we observe closely, birds of various colouirs are fast disappearing from our surroundings. Increasing pollution, cutting of trees, growing concrete jungle and spreading mobile towers signals are some of the factors causing extinction of birds, our winged guests. In the US and other developed countries, there are websites that offer tips to attract birds to our backyards. We haven’t yet reached that stage, so, it is late than never to save our birds.
