IIT Hyderabad hosted PIWOT Satellite Conference on the theme: “A Smarter World: AI as the Tool, Industry 5.0 as the Path”.

IIT Hyderabad proudly & successfully hosted a PIWOT Satellite Conference on January 21, 2025, bringing together thought leaders, industry experts, and academia to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Industry 5.0. Themed “A Smarter World: AI as the Tool, Industry 5.0 as the Path,” the event featured insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and innovative ideas aimed at fostering collaboration between industry and academia.

The day began with opening remarks from Prof. Mahendra Kumar Madhavan, Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations, IIT Hyderabad. Prof. B.S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the institute’s dedication to impactful research, innovation and collaboration. He emphasized that “Collaboration is key to our success and growth”. He also further highlighted about his participation as one of the panellists in PAN IIT Europe Global Conference held at Amsterdam on October 04-08 th, 2024 on the topic “Innovation & Academia- Initiatives by the IITs”

 

To impact rural people

Ramnath S. Mani, Co-Chair of WHEELS Global Foundation India South Chapter, introduced the  panIIT WHEELS initiative, emphasizing its pivotal role in driving social change. – ” By leveraging technology, expertise, and the IIT alumni network, we empower NGOs and grassroots organizations to scale solutions and transform lives in rural and periurban areas. Our mission is to impact 20% of India’s rural population, bringing sustainable, technology-driven solutions to those who need them most.”

Prof. B J Rao, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad delivered special address and said – ” Partnering with organizations to build infrastructure and foster innovation, we are dedicated to uplifting communities and transforming lives.”

Sanjeev Deshpande, Convenor, CII Telangana IT, DT, & Startup Panel &Transition & Business dvisor: India & APAC, NTT Data Business Solutions delivered the keynote address and said “The lessons from COVID-19 highlighted the need for resilient supply chains and personalized production that minimizes waste. Governments play a crucial role by creating policy frameworks and infrastructure to support these advancements. By specializing in robotics, AI, IoT, and big data, we aim to transform manufacturing processes and create flexible, efficient, and sustainable solutions”

Valluru Kranthi, IAS., Collector & District Magistrate, Sangareddy District, Government of Telangana, delivered an inspiring inaugural address, commending IIT Hyderabad for its innovative contributions to regional development and technological progress. She emphasized “Technology must address real-world problems and cater to the needs of people, especially in underserved areas. From personalized education plans for students in remote villages to affordable healthcare solutions for tribal communities, there is immense potential to deploy scalable and cost-effective innovations.
