BRS supremo and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao participated in party MP J Santosh Kumar’s Green India Challenge (GIC) and planted a sapling on Wold Environment Day June 5. This took place after CM KCR laid foundation stone for the new building of BRS’ Institute of Excellence and Human Resource Centree, Kokapet,  Hyderabad.

KCR’s participation in this sapling planting on World Environment Day made MP Santosh overjoyed as his GIC is inspired by the CM’s brainchild “Telangana Ku Harita Haaram” (Green necklace to Telangana). Santosh taking a cue from Harita Haaram, launched GIC six years ago and made it a sort of mass movement in not just Telangana, but all over India, which made thousands plant saplings on their special occasions.

“Mentor Obliged GIC”

The Mentor himself obliged to do the honors on the occasion of #WorldEnvironmentDay. Team#GreenInidaChallenge overwhelmed by the kind gesture of the father of #HaritaHaaram to plant a sapling today, as part of #GIC. Nothing could be more happier for me as the creator of #GreenIndiaChallenge movement, as our inspiration behind the initiation himself accepted to plan. Thank you so much Sir KCR garu,” tweeted Santosh.

After planting the sapling, CM KCR told the party leaders not to remove it during the building construction. Ministers Sabita Reddy and Malla Reddy, Telangana BC Commission member Kishore Goud and many other party leaders were present on the occasion. KCR after becoming CM in 2014, made planting trees as a top priorities of his government to increase greenery from 22 to 33 per cent in the State, and launched Harita Haaram.

Thanks to this Harita Haaram drive, Telangana has become one of the states in the country committed to increasing green cover. Renowned Delhi based Centre for Science and Environment  on June 4, has issued a list of 29 states in India on spreading greenery and improving environment and ranked Telangana as No 1. Municipal Administration Minister KTR voiced happiness over CSE’s ranking of Telangana and attributed it to Harita Haaram.

Earlier in the day, MP Santosh participated in World Environment Day celebrations at Begumpet Institute of Genetics, Hyderabad and planted saplings on it s campus. BRS MLA Danam Nagender, Kishore Goud, Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof D Ravinder, Institute director Vijaya Lakshmi and several other students took part in the celebrations.
