Telangana Chief Minister KCR is expected to announce in the Assembly on March 9 filling up around 70,000 government jobs that are lying vacant. This is going to be the big announcement he told a gathering at Wanaparthy on March 8, Tuesday. “Please watch TV at 10 am tomorrow, there will be an big news for unemployees,” said KCR addressing a meeting.

There is no official confirmation from the CM Office or from any senior ministers on this yet, but KCR is thinking of announcing filling all vacant jobs in government for the last one year. As the assembly is in session now, he cannot make it public outside.  The CM instructed CS Somesh Kumar to carry out a comprehensive exercise to gather details of vacancies in government jobs.

Phased Manner

Somesh Kumar did an elaborate work on government jobs and has gathered details on this. An estimated 55,000 job vacancies are there, but the government will go for phased manner recruitment. KCR may announce a calendar for the recruitment of government jobs starting from April-May and go on till the year end.

Filling up of vacant government jobs is one of the main pillars of Telangana separate state movement and the jobless youth have been demanding for the same since last few years. Though the government has filled some jobs in the last eight years, it hasn’t been up to the expected levels. KCR is for recruiting for all vacancies including Group-1 and 2.

Youth Waiting

Two decades ago, since around 1995, the World Bank has imposed some restrictions on fresh recruitment and insisted on downsizing government staff. But, the situation has changed in the last 20 years. A large number of youth are waiting for government jobs in Telangana. Moreover, Covid pandemic has further aggravated the situation.

Unemployment allowance is another proposal before the CM, but he may not go for it. It is difficult to decide who is unemployed and how much should be paid to each candidate. In Andhra, previous CM Chandrababu Naidu tried to give some dole money to the jobless, but it didn’t work out. KCR also wants to blunt the protests of BJP and Congress, fighting for job recruitment now.
