Senior bureaucrat K Vijayanand, 1992 batch IAS officer, has assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh from January 1, 2025. Considered as an expert in energy related public undertakings, he held many positions in the sector including chairman and managing director AP Genco and Transco for about a couple of years till now. He supersedes six other senior IAS officers for the CS post, but he is senior to them in age and experience in key departments. Currently, he is energy special chief secretary, in Government of AP.

Vijayanand worked in many capacities for the last three decades in undivided Andhra Pradesh including as collector of Nalgonda among others.  He earned a name of being down to earth official and accessible to one and all. As he spent over a decade in the energy sector, Vijayanand, an MTech postgrad,  gained expertise in this area. As AP now aspires to emerge as a surplus state in power generation through green and traditional fields, his presence as the CS would be valued most.

Able administrator”

Some of his colleagues call him an able administrator with ease. |Vijayanand is an able administrator and accessible to us always to guide us on any issues,” said. Several senior officials who  worked with Vijayanand in Hyderabad said that he is a quick decision maker keeping all angles in view of a subject.  Though he is with a technology degree, Vijayanandd accords importance to people ‘s interests and tries to solve  them, said a retired RDO who worked with him earlier.

Vijayanand  superannuates in November 2025, but, his term can be extended a couple of terms, as CM Naidu is part of the ruling NDA at the Centre.
