Former BRS Rajya Sabha MP and Green India Challenge activist leader J Santosh Kumar this Sunday, June 22, clicked four beautiful photos of a cute Asian Green Beater. Of course, this little colourful bird is not alone, a bee on its beak. Four pics he posted on X at 8.30 am are of different angles – a bee sitting on the bird’s nose, bird lifting the bee in air and examining and hitting it finally. All the four photos of are of good camera work. Santosh must be using Nikon 850 camera, if my information is right.
He posted these pics on social media in the morning and got 1.035 views by evening including close to 100 likes. That’s far enough as most of us have no time for nature and environment. Rain or shine, Santosh makes it a point to continue his #Happy Sunday photography, of birds, nature and bird watching. He started Green India Challenge close to a decade go and taken up this nature photography four years ago. Thousands of us must have seen his photos and appreciated them. His GIC army is steadily growing and on.
What’s special about Green Beaters?
These beautiful green beater birds are spread in our areas – commonly sighted, as they are populated from Sri Lanka to Iran and some south east countries too. They belong to small sized passerine birds family, with dozens of variations and colours of plumage. They look like parrots but no comparison beyond that. These Asian green beaters (they are actually called bee-eaters) thrive on insects and are seen on river beds and near water bodies. Needless to say, their preferred food is bees, thus deriving their name!
Rainy season is favoured for any birds as their food is available aplenty. We can watch these green beaters on and off birds and shrubs, fluttering actively mornings and evenings too.
