Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. Danda Raji Reddy has said that forest wild fruits will be the basis for nutritional security in the future. There is a need to bring awareness among public on the value of these fruits so that the overall health consciousness of society would go up.
He attended the book launch of “Adarana Karuvaina Adivasi pandlu” written by retired principal scientist Dr. M. Padmaiah at the Horticultural College, Rajendranagar as the chief guest and spoke. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the university will conduct research on forest fruit species found in the forest and have nutritional values, and that the university will work to develop new varieties from them if necessary, said a press release.
He urged farmers to also consider the possibilities of cultivating these valuable wild fruit plants in their fields. Varsity is has a plan to establish 5 acre foreat edible minor fruit crops in the colleges. He said that in-depth research on these works will be carried out in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority, Forest Department and the government and a program will be undertaken to introduce their nutritional values to the consumers. He promised to set up a forest of forest fruits mentioned by the author in five acres on the university campus.

Chief Conservator of Forest Dr. Priyanka Varghese said on this occasion that pictures of useful fruits will be displayed in major parks for the consumers and the public to understand the subject. Dr. Achalender Reddy, former chairman of the National Biodiversity Authority, said that these forest fruits should be understood as part of preserving the country’s biodiversity.
Dr. Padmaiah, the author of the book, said that the book was written with the sole intention of introducing forests as great resources that provide rare nutritional values, not just forests.
