Santosh catches cool ducks in still waters this Sunday

Ducks

BRS Rajya Sabha MP and Green India Challenge founder J Santosh Kumar caught on his camera some cool ducks in still waters this Sunday, June 1. The royal ducks (or geese or swans?) are swimming in a lake like pool. He posted the pics on X in the morning and needless to say, they got a thousand and a half views and hundreds of likes by the end of the day.

Posting of these pictures of ducks is timely. As south west monsoon has set in over most of the southern India and more so on Telangana and Hyderabad, the ducks in waters is apt and contextual. As the saying goes, ducks or geese or even swans are considered to be signs of abundance. Abundance is because of their habitat of waters.

If there is water, there is abundance and prosperity. Now we come to the question of the birds. Ducks, geese and swans are from the same family of waterfowls. It is difficult to differentiate them, but people call them different names going by the shape, size and presence. Swans are larger birds with elongated necks, while geese are medium sized and ducks are smaller and local.

If we go deeper, geese eat only herbivores while ducks thrive and small insects and omnivores. People also count on the length of necks – swans and geese have longer necks with more curves while ducks have shorter necks. Sounds they make too are different, say the wildlife experts.

Anyway, the presence of these birds indicates cleanliness of water with life. Santosh has been running his #weekend photography so religiously that he never misses to post pics of wildlife every Sunday, rain or shine.

He has built a sustained base of fans across social media for his photos who not just appreciate his photography but also admire his adoration for nature and wildlife. This campaign, hopefully, inspire us all to care for nature and wildlife.
