These 3 movies that defied Tollywood routine

Good that we are seeing more and more movies in Telugu which defy the regular formulae of the commercial genre. Here I would like to mention three films which were released in 2021 fag end, but are remembered by movie goers for long time. Of course, these movies are pucca commercial and for regular audiences, but somehow they stand apart from others.

Of course, this is my personal choice. First is “Varudu Kavalenu ” by debutante director Lakshmi Soujanya which hit the screens in the last week of October. Heroine Ritu Varma and Naga Shaurya play the new generation lovers, while the director explored the psyche of girls on choice of their life partners through “pelli choopulu” (match making).

Second is “Skylab” produced and acted by Nithya Menen. This daring venture explores the times of 1979, when a man-made satellite, Skylab, fell on the earth, in a remote village of Karimnagar district in Telangana. Satyadev is male lead while Vishvak Khanderao directed it. We must appreciate Nithya for coming forward to produce the movie, more to expect from her Nithya Menen Company.

Third film is “Gamanam”, directed by another debutante Sujana Rao and acted by Shreya. This is a completely out of the box Telugu movie, inspired by the flash floods in Hyderabad in 2020 October. Sujana Rao brilliantly captures three parallel stories that occur during the floods and effortlessly merge them, offering an ending that brings us a smile.

Surprisingly, these three movies were released in theaters and ran for about a week or so. We are sure, many more such films will greet in 2022 too.
