All these days, we are used to watch Allari Naresh in comedy or hilarious movies. Prefix to his name, Allari too came from one such movies. But on and off, he has been dabbling in different genre movies too, like “Gamyam” and recent one – “Naandi” – where he showed his other side – of potential to perform. But, newly released “Ugram” is a film, where he showed to what extent he can stretch up to. And what? He did justice to it.

In this power packed performance with loads of emotions and shades of psychedelic reflections, Naresh made audience glued to seats, for 146 minutes length of the movie.  Naresh who till now acted in 50 plus films never takes anything in the story for granted – be it his role, or giving scope for other actors in a scene. As he claimed in one of recent promotional TV interviews, he is a director’s actor. Vijay Kanakamedala is director of Ugram

Story by Toom Venkat, produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi. Cinematography, Siddharth J, editing Chota K Prasad and Music Sricharan Pakala. Interestingly, Vijay who directed Naandi paired again Naresh for this film. This shows, Vijay strongly believes in Naresh’s non-comedy potential. As Naresh said, Vijay thinks, he is an underrated actor.

Of course, basis story line is not that different, but pace of narration and editing and the emotional mix is superb. We cannot ignore other actors – heroine Mirnaa Menon and Baby Uha Reddy, who acted as the protagonist police officer Shiva Kumar’s wife and daughter. Even Shatru, as friend and colleague sub-inspector Victor, will be with us, even after we watch the movie. Indraja as Dr Manasa too did well.

What attracts us not just the basic story line, but the treatment of it, particularly editing an dialogues, which fit into real life situations do matter. Vijay maintained grip over many scenes, where characters but not the actors rule the show. Made on a tight budget of around Rs 15 crore, Ugram will definitely see profits to producers. Release on May 5, Friday, the film is expected to get back that amount by next weekend. Watchable with family.
