Rama Krishna Sangem
Kadam Aaswad, 5 year old UKG student from Mukra village near Ichoda mandal of old Adilabad district in Telangana joined Green India Challenge (GIC) by planting a sapling on his birthday on December 1, Thursday. GIC founder and BRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar expressed his happiness over Aaswad’s participation in the green campaign, which is spreading fast and wide.
“I am quite happy that a large number of youth, boys and girls of school and college going age are recognizing the value of trees and greenery,” said Santosh, while talking to Excel India. GIC, launched 5 years ago, as part of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR)’s call for promoting green cover in State, titled as “Telangana Ku Harita Haaram”.
It’s pleasantly incidental that the completion of 5 years of GIC is marked by a 5 year old Aaswad joining the campaign. Of course, helped by his parents – father Avinash and mother Namrata – Aaswad patiently planted a sapling on the court yard of his house and watered it. He even took a selfie with the plant. A small group of villagers including Aaswad’s kith and kin clapped while he did all this.
Talking to Excel India on phone, Aaswad’s mother Namrata said: “Aaswad is going to Government Primary School in our village and studying UKG. He is an active boy and liked planting a sapling on his birthday“. The couple has another kid – a 5 months old boy. Avinash works as a junior assistant in the women development and child welfare department in Adilabad.
“Will Spread the cause”
“Our little son planting a sapling on his birthday inspired many other parents and kids in our village. We all know about Green India Challenge of Santosh garu. We will spread the cause of tree planting,” said Namrata. Till now, GIC has been hogging limelight for its participation among film starts, celebrities and other political VIPs. But, soon it is gaining momentum among commoners.
Of late, it has become a habit for youngsters and students to plant a sapling and take a selfie on their birthdays or college freshers days. Santosh who celebrates his 46th Birthday three days from now, December 7, is more than happy. “I am just taking forward our CM KCR’s message of promoting greenery in Telangana, luckily, people of all ages and all walks of life are embracing it,” said Santosh Kumar.
