B Rajamouli assumed charge as the new Director of Information and Public Relations (I&PR), in Telangana government at Samachara Bhavan, AC Guards, in Hyderabad on April 20, Wednesday. The I&PR Director’s post is lying vacant for sometime as the department is headed by Commissioner Aravind Kumar, IAS Special Chief Secretary, also looks after Municipal Administration and Urban Development.
Till now, additional director Nagaiah Kamble and Joint Director DS Jagan used to report to the commissioner. Now on, Rajamouli, who superannuated as deputy director two years ago is expected to report to the commissioner and give new dimension to the department. Rajamouli, till now was the OSD to Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, is known for his deep understanding of various subjects in the government departments.
Rajamouli, immediately after receiving his appointment orders called on Chief Minister KCR on Tuesday night at Pragati Bhavan and thanked him for the opportunity. Rajamouli’s appointment as the director of I&PR assumes significance in view of the ensuing elections to the Assembly in two and a half years. His tenure also is fixed for a period of two years, as per the order.
The new I&PR Director Rajamouli was given a warm welcome at the I&PR office and all the senior officers greeted him on the occasion of charge assuming.
Additional Directors Nagaiah Kamble, LLR Kishore Babu, Joint Directors DS Jagan, D Srinivas, KV Ramana, Media Academy secretary N Venkateswar Rao, GHMC chief PRO Mohammed Murtaza, deputy directors M Madhusudhan, Y Venkateswarlu, Panduranga Rao, G Prasada Rao, Raja Reddy, KV Suresh and others were present.
Rajamouli recalled his association with the department and thanked everyone who greeted him. Speaking on the occasion, Rajamouli said he would discharge his duties as per the directions of CM KCR and commissioner Aravind Kumar. Incidentally, the I&PR department is with the CM currently. There are reports that a new minister will get this portfolio whenever CM reshuffles his Cabinet soon.
I&PR department is responsible for spreading the activities of the government among the people through both official and independent media. The department releases advertisements to newspapers, magazines, and TV channels. The department is also now making use of the digital media to reach out to the public.
