On the occasion of World Kidney Day, March 12, experts from Ampath Laboratories highlighted the importance of routine diagnostic screening in detecting kidney disease at an early stage, particularly among individuals with diabetes, hypertension and other lifestyle-related conditions.
Dr. Maneesh Bagai, Chief Operating Officer, Ampath – noted that kidney disease often progresses silently and may not show noticeable symptoms until the condition becomes advanced, making regular diagnostic testing essential, said a press release.
“Many people are unaware that simple blood and urine tests can help identify kidney dysfunction early. Tests such as serum creatinine, blood urea, urine routine examination, urine microalbumin and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) play a crucial role in assessing kidney function and detecting abnormalities at an early stage,” he said.
He added that the increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity has contributed significantly to the growing burden of kidney disorders. Individuals with these risk factors should undergo periodic kidney function tests as part of their preventive health check-ups.
Labs monitor kidney health
Highlighting the role of advanced diagnostics, Dr. Maneesh Bagai said laboratories today play a key role in enabling timely detection and monitoring of kidney health.
Ampath Laboratories, which has built a strong reputation globally for its diagnostic expertise and quality standards, has been at the forefront of providing reliable laboratory testing services that support early disease detection and better clinical decision-making.
“Early diagnosis through accurate laboratory testing allows timely medical intervention and can help prevent complications such as chronic kidney disease that may eventually require dialysis or transplantation,” Dr. Bagai added.
On the occasion of World Kidney Day, experts also stressed the need for greater public awareness about preventive health practices, including maintaining adequate hydration, adopting a balanced diet, avoiding excessive use of painkillers and undergoing regular health screenings to safeguard kidney health.
