Governor Varma calls for more tech-driven women enterprises

Telangana governor Jishnu Dev Varma has called for empowering women to lead in the technology driven economic growth of the country. Though the presence and participation of women in entrepreneurship and businesses is growing of late, it should further go up and reach scale.

The Governor was addressing at the inaugural session of a two-day event of Women International Summit in Entrepreneurship – WISE and B2B Expo 2025 – in Hyderabad on February 28, Friday.  He said there is a need to empower women through digital technology that is the future of the country.

“Women led enterprises are driving India’s economic growth. They constitute of 20 per cent of MSMES, employ over 23 per cent of workforce and contribute 15 per cent to India’s GDP. However, we must go beyond this,” aid the governor.

“We must go beyond participation and work towards equity, access and expansion. Technology is the key enabler that can bridge gender gaps, open new markets and make businesses scalable,” Varma pointed out.

He asked the women entrepreneurs to explore digital technologies including Artificial Intelligence and expand their businesses further not just for economic growth, but also for shaping inclusive and sustainable future of the country.

The governor called upon women entrepreneurs to make use of digital efficiency, automation and emerging financial solutions to optimize their operations. Fintech innovations and increasing access to capital  help them overcome conventional financing constraints, he said.

Telangana Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Telangana Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha, Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs (COWE) India founder director Uma Gurkha, COWE national president Lalitha Aluri were present on theoccaszion.

Telangana IT and Industries Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Mercy Epao, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of SME, Government of India, Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner, Hyderabad, Sangita Reddy, Joint MD, Apollo Hospitals and Shekhar Reddy, national vice-president CII- Green Building Council and Meghana Rao, director of My Homes too were present. The event will conclude March 1, with Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao’s speech.
