‘Inside Out-2’ an animation film collected as much as 1.25 billion US dollars or Rs 10,000 crore, worldwide just in a month. Many of us in India may be shocked to see the figures as we are still talking about ‘Kalki 2898 crossing Rs 1,000 crore worldwide within three weeks of its release. Some film trade analysts are still keeping ‘Dangal’ or Baahubali 1&2′ as bench marks to measure our movies success in the market.

‘Inside Out-2’ has overtaken all these figures and is still counting. Made by Pixar and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, this movie is directed by Kelsey Mann. This is a sequel to  2015 film Inside Out. Even after nine years of its first part, audience are loving the part 2 like anything.  Of course, five to six years of pre-production work has gone into the making of this second part. This movie is of runtime of 1.36 hours.

It’s all about emotions

Going by the fact that Inside Out 2 made on a budget of around 200 million US dollars (around Rs 180 crore), its box office collections boggle our minds. But, this is not a business analysis – it’s about why audience globally connected to the movie. The answer is simple – it’s all about emotions. Protagonist – Riley Andersen, is a teenager and her prime emotion of anxiety is the main theme of the movie.

As adults, we may know how to deal with different emotions – joy, jealousy, anger and frustration, but it is a different and difficult matter for teenagers to handle them. Especially in this era of digital gadgets offering virtual world or worlds.  As a movie reviewer said, today’s parents are guiding their kids on how to deal with the real world, but not the virtual world and its illusions.

Who says animation films are not of big budget ones or blockbusters? Since the beginning of this decade, most of the films that grossed huge amounts globally are of animation movies. Superheroes are created from the storytelling, not from big stars. Inside Out 2 is classic case of how animation movies made on contemporary themes with griping storytelling can enthrall audiences.
