Approximately 38 photojournalists, from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, were honoured with coveted awards on the occasion of the World Photojournalism Day, at a glittering function organised by the State Department of Creativity and Culture Commission, in collaboration with the Photography Academy of India (PAI) and Indian International Photography Council (IIPC), at Vijayawada, late Friday evening.

World Photojournalism Day (November 1) is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Oskar Barnack (November 1, 1879 – January 16, 1936). A German inventor and photographer, he designed the first commercially successful 35mm camera, the Leica, and is considered a pioneer of photojournalism.

The awards were given by Andhra Pradesh High Court Judge Justice K. Manmadha Rao in the presence of men of eminence, including the Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Dr. Mandali Buddha Prasad, former Member of Parliament Gokaraju Ganga Raju and T. Srinivasa Reddy, founder and Chairman of Photo Academy of India (PIA), the co-host.
