BRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar this Sunday – June 25 – clicked four pics of a colourful Malabar Barbet as part of his #WeeklyDoseofPhotography. This cute little bird with brown ahead and multicolored wings and tail is commonly seen in Hyderabad, though many say Western Ghats is its home. This Sunday tweet of birds by 2.30 pm, got 4,502 views, 212 likes and 50 retweets. Â
This bird is also called Asian Barbet or Coppersmith Barbet is mostly dwells coffee estates of Tamil Nadu, a birdwatcher from Hyderabad told Excel India. “They are great survivors and intelligent too,” he, a retired forest officer worked earlier in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh said.
They eat fruits, nuts and small insects. Mostly sit on tree tops and take short but firm flights to their prey. These colourful birds are vulnerable to bird- trade and captive poachers. As we always say, MP Santosh’s #GreenIndiaChallenge (GIC) is for saving environment and wildlife and bird are not to be caged. Let them fly free. He has been posting pictures of wildlife and nature every Sunday, to bring awareness among people on the need to preserve our environment.
“Inspiration is my leader CM KCR“
Sanotsh said that the inspiration for his GICÂ is BRS national president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). “My leader KCR garu is known for his love for greenery and nature. Right from 1980s when he (KCR) was an MLA from Siddipet, he promoted tree plantation in the name of “Siddipeta Ku Harita Haaram” which later became Telangana Ku Harita Haaram after 2014,” Santosh told CNN News18 Channel.
The MP told the channel that the tree cover in Telangana at the time of state formation nine years ago was just 22 per cent and CM KCR through his sustained efforts increased it by 7.7 per cent, a national best performance Thanks to CM KCR’s constant focus, as many as 273 crore saplings were planted in the last years and steps also were taken to protect these trees, said MP Santosh.
