BRS Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar joined “Telangana Ku Harita Haaram” day celebrations by planting saplings at Uppal Bhagayat lands adjacent to Musi River on the eastern side of Hyderabad, on June 19, Monday. He led a gathering of people including BRS Uppal MLA Beti Subhash Reddy, BC Commission member Kishore Goud and others.
“I am quite happy to participate in Telangana Ku Harita Haaram celebrations on the call of our leader and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. In fact, I started Green India Challenge six years ago, inspired by the CM’s brainchild Harita Haram, meant to increase green cover in our Telangana state. I am happy to note that a large number of people have shown interest in these green missions,” said Santosh, speaking on the occasion.
Santosh planted saplings on the HMDA layout at Uppal Bhagayat lands which are not witnessing urban growth. These lands retrieved by HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) from various court cases over the last few years. Planting trees here will go a long way in protecting the green balance on this part of the city, which is known for industrial pollution.
GIC bought awarness
Santosh pointed out that his GIC has took CM KCR’s message of spreading greenery to each individual in Telangana. “I am happy that today, youth are coming forward to plant trees and this will inspire their parents too,” said the MP. He asked people to take steps to plant saplings as well as protect them. CM KCR’s government in the last nine years has done a lot to improve green cover in Telangana from 22 to 33 per cent, Santosh reminded.
MLA Subhash Reddy said that he was happy to plant saplings along with MP Santosh who founded Green India Challenge which brought massive awareness among people on the need to promote greenery. “It’s my privilege to particiapate in this programme today, in the company of Santosh,” said Reddy. Green India Challenge organisers Raghava and Karunakar Reddy too were present, besides some police officials.
