Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s fans would be raising funds for their hero’s new movie, OG (or the full title They Call Him OG), that releases on September 25, Friday. They will be doing it through two ways: One, benefit shows with a ticket price of Rs 1,000 and later through premium ticket prices.
They seem to have a vague target of taking the movie to Rs 1,000 cr club or at least above Rs 500 crore. The producers have launched a marketing blitz that appears to have created some kind of hype around the film. Pawan Kalyan hasn’t seen a blockbuster in recent times and he needs a big hit of this OG, meaning Original Gangster.
Pawan Kalyan certainly needs this super hit to cement his position as Deputy CM of AP and head of Jana Sena party. His cinema appeal is also important for the TDP led NDA coalition in the state that will going for local bodies elections. In Tollywood, like in other film industries, numbers are very important to measure up a star’s stardom.
Industry trackers say, overseas pre-sales of OG have crossed the $3 million (27+ crore) mark, while bookings in India are around 23 crore currently. Together, this pushes the global advance collections comfortably beyond 50 crore for the opening day, with still one and a half days left for the release, according to Sacnilk website..
The craze surrounding OG is being fueled by Pawan Kalyan’s larger-than-life persona and the electrifying promos. In North America, where Telugu cinema continues to expand its presence, the film has already shattered multiple records with its advance ticket sales and has crossed 21 crores just for the premieres.
Back home, tickets are being snapped up at a rapid pace, with shows selling out within minutes of going on sale. The hype has been further boosted by Emraan Hashmi’s menacing antagonist role and Sujeeth’s stylish direction, which promises a high-voltage gangster saga, says Sacnilk.
Budget Rs 250 cr, target Rs 1,000 cr
