Rama Krishna Sangem
Former Rajya Sabha MP and Green India Challenge founder leader J Santosh Kumar continues his #weekendphotography, through the seasons, capturing the ever fascinating beauty of nature. This Sunday, April 20, he posted four photos on X of a parrot leisurely feasting on a ripen guava fruit on a lush green tree branch. A sight to behold! No wounder, the posts got 1,560 views, including 88 likes and 24 reposts.
Santosh never misses his camera work for the theme. Both are equally taken care. Reflecting the current often-hot-often wet weather in Hyderabad of spring season, the photos are full of greenery and the guava tree on which this bird is coolly perched is with not just with one but more fruits, to eat unhurriedly. Outer frames of photos are blurred so that we can focus our attention on the parrot and his fruit. “Looks like someone’s having a healthy snack!” is what Santosh said in his post.
“There’s something truly peaceful about nature’s moments” he added, signifying his motto behind #Birdphotography. This is a mission to sensitizing people about nature and wildlife around us. Of course, not many recognize its importance. Still it is better to remind people of the need to keep our environment protected from climate change. As we all know, presence of birds is an indication of a location’s greenery and its water table too.
Parrots, part of a big family
Parrots, photographed here, are part of a big family of 400 varieties. What we see mostly in India and South Asia belong to a specific group of birds with curved red beak and green bodies. In Telugu , we call them Rama Chilukas or Chilukas, mostly kept as pets in cages. Admiring their beauty is okay, but keeping them in cages as pets is bad. We must educated our children that birds are free-birds, not to be caged. If we love them, the only best way is to grow trees, so that they get a home!
