BRS Rajya Sabha MP  J Santosh Kumar founded Green India Challenge (GIC) got a unique honour in Limca Book of Records Indian records. “Most trees planted in an hour – single venue” category, the GIC secured the distinction. As many as 3,54,900 trees were planted in one hour on July 4, 2021, at Durga Nagar in Adilabad  town by the GIC.

As many as 16,900 people participated in the drive, by each of them planting 21 saplings, said a citation by the Limca Book of Records,signed by its editor Vatsala Kaul Banerjee. The citation was shown to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) atPragathi Bhavan, Hyderabad on April 4, Tuesday. MP Santosh, former minister and Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna, CMO OSD Priyanka Varghees and GIC organizers were present.

KCR complimented Santosh, GIC and particularly Ramanna for making it possible. The CM presented the certificate to Santosh as a mark of his appreciation. In fact, GIC was launched by Santosh taking inspiration from KCR’s pet scheme “Telangana Ku Harita Haaram” a programme designed to  promote greenery. In the last 9 years, Telangana has seen much improvement on this front.

 

Collective Effort

The Limca Book of Records management said that each participant planted 21 saplings and it is the best feat in this category till date. The organisation praised Green India Challenge for making  a big success the massive plantation programme  which is a proof of collective effort and social awareness.

MP Santosh said that getting  “Green India Challenge” a place in the Limca book of records and receiving the certificate from  the hands of the Chief Minister increased the responsibility.  Santosh Kumar said that Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna is the main reason for achieving Limca book Record.

With the inspiration of KCR, Jogu Ramanna  took the decision to plant  saplings as part of the Green India Challenge on his birthday  and planted more than 3.5 lakh  saplings within an hour.  The efforts of Ramanna  and his followers are noteworthy.  This record was made possible due to special efforts made for one month. Santosh Kumar extended special  thanks to  Jogu Ramanna and his  followers.

Santosh Kumar said this record is dedicated to  MLA Jogu Ramanna along with the nature lovers Salumarada Thimmakka, Vanajeevi Ramaiah and Jadav Payang who are tirelessly working to promote green cover and also to everyone who took part actively in Green India Challenge.

On this occasion, Green India Challenge representatives  released a video  on the plantation programme since the beginning of “Green India Challenge”.  “Green India Challenge” representative Sanjiva Raghava and others participated in this programme.
