While the first phase of distribution was carried out in Mahabubabad district, in the second phase, this program is carried out in Kondaparthi (Tadvai mandal), the adopted village of the His Excellency the Telangana Governor in Mulugu district. Later, these Sonali type chicks were also distributed to SC and ST farmers in Jogannapet in Mulugu mandal.
Farmers will benefit
The chickens distributed to each farmer will consist of two male breed chicks and eight female breed chicks, said Dr. J. China, Dean of Horticulture, Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University. “Chicks will grow to a weight of 2-3 kg in 60 days. The chicks will lay eggs from the second month. Farmers will benefit from the sale of eggs and meat.
This scheme has been taken up to help improve the living standards of farmers,” he said. 150 SC and ST families and 60 Koya families were given 10 chickens each, aged 6 weeks. He said that this scheme will be extended to more districts. Local veterinary officials and scientists will provide advice and precautions to the chickens distributed under this scheme so that the chicks gain weight and grow up healthy.
