Prestigious Mahatma Phule Puraskarm (award) has been presented to Telangana State Backward Classes (BC) Commission chairman Dr Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao at the just concluded three day conference of TANA (Telugu Association of North America at Philadelphia on July 9. Krishna Mohan earlier worked as member of BC commission.
The annual TANA Maha Sabha were held on a grand scale from July 7 to 9. TANA selected Dr Krishna Mohan for this Phule award in recognition of his contributions to the cause of BCs. TANA president Dr Prasad Thotakura in a statement said ,” Dr Krishna Mohan was given this award for his outstanding and relentless work in the field of social justice and advocacy of Bahujan ideology”.
Addressing the gathering on the concluding day of the occasion, Dr. Vakulabharanam underlined the importance of unity and inclusivity in society and lauded the efforts of TANA in this direction, which stood as a testimony in projecting unity in Telugu people and culture across the world.
Dr Krishna Mohan said that the meetings of TANA are par excellence, and it was his privilege to launch the book, “Bahujan Shathakam“, which talks about the living conditions of the professionals hailing from the weaker sections. He emphasized that his work was not only for his community but for all groups that face discrimination.
Dr Krishna Mohan noted that his efforts aimed to create a society that values and respects all individuals, regardless of their castes and background. He expressed his gratitude to the TANA Society for conferring the award. He appreciated the contributions of TANA in promoting the interests of Telugu people in America.
TANA meetings were attended by many eminent people including former Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, former Chief Justice of India Dr NV Ramana, popular Telugu film star Balakrishna among others.
