“Women power is still untapped in our society. We should make efforts to utilize the potential to the full extent,” said Sunita Lakshma Reddy, Chairperson of Telangana Women’s Commission. She was addressing at a function organized by Spandana Eda Foundation at Green Park Hotel in Begumpet in Hyderabad on March 10, Thursday.

Sunita, former minister who held women development portfolio earlier, complimented Spandana Eda Foundation chairman Eda Samuel Reddy for his initiatives to bring awareness among women and youth. “We, on behalf of our Women’s Commission, are ready to work with Samuel Reddy’s Spandana Foundation in their efforts,” said Sunita Lakshma Reddy.

Enlightened Woman

Sunita appreciated Samuel Reddy for striving to spread confidence among women and youth. “I know Samuel Reddy who lost his only daughter hasn’t lost his confidence, but began building a movement in both Telangana and Andhra to bring awareness among these sections,” she said. An enlightened woman can do wonders.

Telangana BC Welfare Principal Secretary Burra Venkatesham, IAS, reminded the gathering that today’s women are marching ahead on par with men in all walks of life. “Women are not just a half of the sky as someone mentioned; they are integral to every sphere of life every moment. We cannot imagine the world without their participation,” said Venkatesham.

Samuel Reddy shared his experiences in the foundation and said that women are capable of efficiently handling any responsibility given to them. He explained Spandana’s motto of working for a society without suicides, particularly, among the youth and women. The event was a thanks giving gesture towards women, Reddy said.

TRS MLC Surabhi Vani Devi, who is also daughter of former PM PV Narasimha Rao said that Spandana Eda International Foundation was doing a great work and holding a meeting on the occasion of international women’s day was a right move. Additional Commissioner of Police Dara Kavitha complimented the foundation for conducting the meeting.

Helpline for Women

Spandana Eda foundation women’s wing honorary president Eda Nirmala said a helpline was being to bring assistance to the women in need. Foundation’s women’s wing president GKL Durga, secretary Usha Giri, BJP women’s leader Alka Manoj, AP women’s commission former director Suraj, personality development expert Akella Raghavedra too spoke on the occasion.

Nari Spandana Awards

Around 200 women from different walks of life were felicitated and presented with “Nari Spandana” awards for their contribution to soceity. Spandana Eda activists and office-bearers – Devireddy Kalyani, B Kalyani, Jyotirmayi, Anji Reddy, Ssrinivasa Murthy, Peer Mohammad and Pagolu Sambasiva Rao, took part in the programme.
