After much suspense on her recent political moves and counter-moves, Kavitha Kalvakuntla, MLC, has been suspended from BRS, by her father and party supreme KCR. A lot of discussions and assessments were done by KCR and his close aides for the last couple of days, leading to disciplinary action against her.
This is expected anyway. Kavitha has been bracing for some moves by KCR, her brother KTR and others in the party for some time. She first raised a mild revolt since April last week when she wrote a letter to KCR expressing her unhappiness over the state of affairs in BRS. Since then, her relations with KCR, KTR and the party worsened.
Kavitha, it is learnt will be quitting her MLC seat, at least a year before her term ends in 2026, thus bringing curtains on her 18 years association with her father and his party. In fact, she is the first to join KCR’s Telangana movement way back in 2006. She, however, chose a cultural front, Telangana Jagrithi, as a platform for her activity.
Kavitha, known for assertive, aggressive and ambitious nature, is not ready to settle for something less. She is not the one to be satisfied with an MLC or a Rajya Sabha MP post. She wants to play an active and important role in the party. Kavitha sincerely believes that she is well equipped to handle a bigger political role – why not CM of Telangana?
However, she knows quite well that it is not possible in BRS and in the present situation. KCR has almost anointed KTR as the second in command in the party as well as his political heir. KTR personally is of the view that there shall not be two power centers within the party. He is Okay to give Kavitha some political role or a post, but not a role for her in the top hierarchy – No 3 or even 4. This is not acceptable to Kavitha, who opposes patriarchal bias within and outside the party. So, he partying ways from BRS is inevitable.
Deliberately invited suspension
Kavitha, going by the developments in the last few weeks, is readying for some or the other action from the party. Still she risked that and attacked her cousins and senior party leaders Harish Rao and Santosh, with corruption charges. She knows that her comments would evoke strong reaction from KCR.
But, she wanted that. Kavitha is restless to chart out her own political future and start a new political journey. After resigning to MLC seat, she is expected to start a new political outfit and contest local body polls. Of course, Telangana Jagrithi activists are with her. Only question is how long will take for her to emerge a strong leader, out of the shadows of KCR?
