WiSig Networks, a leader in wireless communications technology, in collaboration with Programmable Solutions Group (PSG), a business unit spun off from Intel Corporation, proudly announces the launch of the world’s first ORAN Massive MIMO ULPI Radio Solution.
This groundbreaking solution marks a significant milestone in the evolution of 5G deployments, offering open, interoperable, and programmable alternatives to traditional custom radios and baseband units, according to a press release in Hyderabad on February 29, Thursday.
As Massive MIMO technology continues to redefine the capabilities of 5G networks, the industry’s focus has shifted towards open, standardized solutions based on ORAN specifications. Building upon the existing ORAN 7.2 functional split, the O-RAN Alliance WG4 initiated a work item (WI) aimed at enhancing Massive MIMO performance through Split Option 7.2x ULPI (Uplink Performance Improvement). This innovation necessitates the integration of a massive MIMO uplink equalizer & the entire uplink receiver within the O-RU.
WiSig Networks spearheaded the development of a pioneering solution that delivers a remarkable 10x improvement in uplink cell edge coverage through a low-complexity, high-performance uplink Massive MIMO equalizer. This brings benefits like Increased capacity, improved signal quality, better spectral efficiency and cost-effective solution for telecom operators.
Together with Programmable Solutions Group, WiSig proudly unveils the 32TR Massive MIMO solution, fully compliant with ORAN ULPI specifications. This solution is compatible with a wide range of state-of-the-art Agilex family FPGAs.
Commenting on this milestone achievement, Prof. Kiran Kuchi, founder of WiSig Networks, stated, “Our collaboration with PSG signifies a commitment to delivering world-class ORAN Massive MIMO radio solutions to global operators within stringent timelines. Leveraging PSG’s 32TR Massive MIMO reference designs, WiSig is expanding this technology to offer a programmable ORAN 7.2x ULPI-compliant 32TR Massive MIMO solution. We anticipate conducting network-level Proof of Concepts (POCs) of the ORAN 32TR solution in Q4 of 2024. This solution will be made readily available to global wireless operators transitioning to ORAN technology.”
