Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan is expected to expand his Jana Sena in Telangana too in the days to come. BJP aspires to emerge as a major political force here in the coming couple of years and banks on Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s cinema glamour to achieve its goals by 2028-29 assembly elections. On its own, BJP is not in a position to come to power here. And Pawan is a trusted ally of BJP and PM Modi for sometime.
This is the reason why Pawan Kalyan planned a Nava Nirmana Sankalpa meeting in Hyderabad on June 2, Telangana formation day. Revanth Reddy led Congress government in Telangana hasn’t given permission to the meeting on the grounds of law and order maintenance. Local Jana Sena leaders have knocked the doors of courts to get permission and a decision is awaited.
There are chances that courts may allow the meeting on Tuesday. There are chances of not allowing it too. Whatever maybe the outcome, holding of this meeting is only symbolic. Real substantial course of politics will follow in the coming days. Pawan, in one or the other ways, continues his efforts to launch or revive his party in Telangana.
BJP needs Pawan support
This is because BJP which is desperate to grow in Telangana needs the support of Pawan Kalyan. BJP’s top brass is not happy with the state party leadership, which is docile, low profile and complacent. The latest episode of union junior home minister Bandi Sanjay’s son involvement in a crime against a minor girl has dampened the BJP spirits here.
Pawan also knows that his growth prospects are limited in AP. He cannot grow beyond dominant presence of Chandrababu Naidu led TDP. BJP is a nominal force in AP with no big future. So, Telangana is the new ground for Pawan to expand. He may not be a Vijay of TVK, but there’s some space for him here.
Pawan has a good base of fans in Telangana. But, hardcore Telangana activists naturally oppose him, in view of his recent utterances against this state. Though Pawan’s family lives and owns properties in Hyderabad, he is seen as an Andhra politician. BJP may be aware of this limitation of Pawan. But, the national party has no other option but to depend on actor-turned politician in Telangana.
