IIM Shillong hosted Hugh Boylan Consul General, Australian Consulate General, Kolkata as part of the Pangea Series an initiative of the International Relations Committee, who engaged the audience in a discussion on the topic "Strategic Synergies: Exploring Opportunities for Bilateral Trade and Investment between Australia and Northeast India.”

The focus was cast on the dynamic and evolving landscape of Australia-India relations, with a special emphasis on bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Australia and North East India, said a press release from IIM Shillong on March 19, Monday.

Boylan, with his extensive experience in international trade and diplomacy, delved into the strategic synergies that can be harnessed to foster mutual growth and development. He highlighted the critical role of sectors such as agriculture, education, renewable energy, and technology in driving forward these international partnerships.

Presently IIM Shillong is partnered with the University of Wollongong, Australia for Student Exchange Program and working on other prospective international engagement opportunities with Australian B-Schools and Universities. The session shed light on existing initiatives and agreements, alongside exploring future prospects that hold the promise of bolstering the economic and strategic bonds between Australia and Northeast India.

 

Global diplomacy complexities

This interaction with Boylan, facilitated an exchange of ideas and fostered a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in international trade and diplomacy. While addressing questions and sharing his insights, he offered attendees a rare opportunity to learn from a diplomat, enriching their perspective on global economic and strategic affairs.

The event underscored IIM Shillong’s commitment to providing its students and faculty with opportunities to engage with prominent figures from the global arena and gain first-hand insights into international affairs.
