Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao participated in the valedictory of 75 years of Indian Independence celebrations at an event held at HICC Convention Centre in Hyderabad on September 1, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said: “Our movement for separate Telangana statehood is inspired by the freedom struggle of Mahatma Gandhi and several other freedom fighters”> The agitation for separate statehood was run only through non-violent methods and peaceful expression of public will.
CM KCR on the occasion inspected a guard of honour from the police forces and unfurled the national flag and offered floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi to mark the conclusion of year long celebrations.
Telangana government’s culture and language department organized a show that depicted the freedom struggle at various stages.
“I am happy that we have shown the film Gandhi, based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi to as many as 30 lakh school students in Telangana in the last one year,” said the CM.
The CM reminded that Indian Independence struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi had not just rallied together people of the country, but inspired several great leaders across the world like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.
Freedom struggle inspired Telangana movement
KCR recalled how he led Telangana movement from 2001 on mobilizing every section of people of this region through peaceful methods.
“Even after achieving the state in 2014, we haven’t deviated from the path of Mahatma Gandhi and the spirit of our freedom struggle,” said CM KCR.
Assembly speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Legislative Council chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, ministers Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Harish Rao, Sabita Reddy, Vemula Prashant Reddy, K Eswahar, Mahender Reddy, Jagadeswar Reddy, Srinivas Yadav, Kamalakar and Indrakaran Reddy, BRS parliamentary party leader Keshava Rao were present.
Chief Secretary Santi Kumari, IAS, Chief Advisor to CM KCR Somesh Kumar, IAS, DGP Anjani Kumar IPS and officials of several departments took part in the celebrations.
