“Congress will keep all its promises made to people during the last assembly elections. People have trusted and voted for us as they have believed in our 6 guarantees given to different sections of our society,” said Jetti Kusum Kumar, former working president of Telangana Congress Committee (TPCC). Kusum Kumar is a close confidant of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

In an exclusive interview to Excel India, Kusum Kumar expressed confidence that Congress would win a majority of Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. “The reason is that people have realized that it is Congress which gave Telangana. But for the initiative of Sonia Gandhi, Telangana state wouldn’t have been a reality,’ Kusum Kumarn told this news magazine at his Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad.

On the herculean task of implementing the six guarantees Congress made to people, Kusum Kumar said that the financial condition of Telangana was difficult when Revanth Reddy government took over in December just after the assembly elections. “We released a white paper on the financial condition of Telangana, explaining actual reality,” he said.

A debt burden of around Rs 6 lakh crore left by the previous KCR led BRS government underscores the seriousness of the situation. Rs 85,000 crore debts of the power sector alone explain how the earlier government had neglected the governance. Our government had to take steps to put in place the day to day administration, he said

Kusum Kumar, however, expressed confidence that CM Revanth Reddy has enough capacity to set right the situation and take forward the state. “We have our own strategies to not just to implement the six guarantees, but also all other promises made to people in our election manifesto. Already, we have implemented five of the six guarantees,” said Kusum Kumar.

Job calendar for youth a top priority

The actual work of Revanth Reddy government would begin just after Lok Sabha elections when model code of conduct will be lifted. Releasing a job calendar to the youth and executing waiver of farmers’ debt with the banks etc merit the attention of the Congress government, Kumar explained. Already, women have been enjoying the free bus ride facility offered to them, he said.

Kusum Kumar hoped that Congress would win at least 14 out of the total 17 MPs from Telangana. AIMIM may win Hyderabad seat, but the position of BJP and BRS is doubtful as the situation may change by the time elections are held on May 13, felt Kusum Kumar. According to him, Congress will definitely improve its strength from the assembly elections.

Kusum Kumar recalled how Congress won an impressive win in the assembly elections belying the estimations of the other parties. “All sections of society us. While rural areas people have fully backed Congress, voters of the urban areas might have thought otherwise as they had doubts over the prospects of real estate sector. But such fears will be proved wrong,” said Kusum Kumar.
