CPI secretary Narayana writes to CM Naidu on Kolleru issues

CPI national secretary Dr K Narayan urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to  order to solve the problem.Andhra Pradesh state government has to implement the order issued on October 24 Thursday by Supreme Court, bench consisting of three justices BR Gavai, Justice Prashant Kumar Sharma and Justice KV Vishwanathan.

Order has categorically stated that it was wilfull  negligence on the part of state government for not implementing the orders of central empowered committee since March 2006, said Narayana, in an open letter to CM Chandrababu Naidu.

Order was in regard to Wet lands of International reputed  Kolleru lake  and bird sanctuary is being encroached by land sharks for construction of fish tanks in more than 100 acres. Central empowered committee in its order glaringly directed the state government to demolish fish tanks by May 2006. Supreme Court in recent order clearly stated why not contempt of court proceedings be initiated on state government.

According to wildlife management division of forest department of AP state govt 6908 hectares of Kolleru wet lands and bird sanctuary is being encroached for pisciculture . At present 20-25 acres of lake is remaining.Hence these fish tanks be demolished immediately without any further delay.

It is not out of context to remind that  while I was state secretary of CPI, united  Andhra Pradesh, along with Suravaram SUdhakara Reddy, former MP met Manmohan Singh ji former prime Minister enlightened upon Kolleru lake  issue. Immediately  he has put a word to the then chief Minister Dr YS Rajashekara Reddy and in turn he ordered the then district collector  Agarwal put an end to illegal occupations  by aqua mafia. Subsequently transferred due to pressure and influence of mafia of aqua culture and fish big magnets.

 

Bird lovers visit Kolleru

Many bird lovers all over the globe are visiting bird sanctuary, hence necessary drinking water and other facilities be arranged on war footing.  Fish tanks or aqua culture tanks have become hurdles for-Budameru waters free  flow into Bengal ocean. In result floods entered into even Vijayawada city apart from many villages got immersed recently. There was huge loss to individual properties and human loss as well.

Secondly Rice crops and many commercial crops including vegetables and fruit trees and plants  of West Godavari and East Godavari , Krishna districts got damaged due to heavy floods from Budameru.

Thirdly fish tanks and aqua culture are creating imbalance in biodiversity and entire environment nearby areas are being polluted. Factories should not be allowed to pollute Kolleru waters. Finally owners of fish tanks  are killing cranes by gun shots. As you are aware of the fact that  millions of birds including pelicans are migrating to Kolleru lake from even Europe  including Syberia.
