Senior Congress leader and Indian Parliamentarian Dr Shashi Thaoor who recently visited the US charmed people in Washington DC with his oratorical skills and command over different subjects. 67 year old Tharoor since 2009, represents Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat from Kerala. Before entering politics, he worked as United Nations Under-Secretary General. He was here on May 5.

He unsuccessfully contested for the post of UN Secretary General in 2006 and then joined Congress party to take up public life in India. Dr Tharoor is the founder chairman of All India Professionals Congress. Now he is the chairman of parliamentary standing committee on science and technology. He also worked as minister of state for human resources development and external affairs in the council of ministers of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Dr Tharoor was at the Jewish Community Center in Rockville, Maryland to inaugurate he DC South Asian Literary  Festival, a forum for South Asian writers and poets, hosted by Manoj Singh, executive director of DC South Asian Art Festival. As Tharoor is a powerful orator and a distinguished author, needless to say, he charmed one and all at the festival where he participated in many panel discussions and talks and Q&A sessions.

Sahitya   Akademy Winner

Dr Tharoor is a well known author who penned over 20 books, both fiction and non-fiction and collections of essays has won Kendra Sahitya Akademy in India. Dr Tharoor was honored with President Joe Biden’s Lifetime Achievement Aware from me, on the occasion, for his lifelong commitment to Incredible India, through leadership and service. The festival also joined by authors like Arundhati Subramanyam, Aditi Rao and immigrant lawyer Sheela Murthy.
