Edit of Excel India June issue
Droupadi Murmu, presidential candidate of ruling BJP led NDA is all set to be elected the 16th President of India. Her opponent and opposition parties candidate Yashwant Sinha is the race, but he is unlikely to muster majority votes to win. Droupadi Murmu, the first Adivasi woman to be the First Citizen of India will be attracting the attention of all Indians and the world community in the next five years.
We wish her to be assertive and proactive while she discharges her duties in Rashtrapathi Bhavan. The entire country will looking at her for the way she functions as the Chief Executive of India. She will be the Supreme Commander of Defence forces and will have judicial powers to pardon the death row convicts, even is Supreme Court confirms the sentence. She will be visiting dozens of countries in the coming years. She is the head of the Parliament too.
So, there will be a lot of expectations from her. Droupadi Murmu must gear up to these responsibilities. Already there is a talk in opposition camp, which backs Sinha, that not the social background, but the experience and efficiency of the president should be looked into. Murmu should not be failing on this count too. She must improve her capabilities and efficiencies. Ruling party should strengthen her hands.
Coming to other stories in this issue, there are two achievers. First, T Chiranjeevulu, IAS (Retd) who worked in many capacities in AP and Telangana, before his superannuation in April 2012. He is a rare self-made man who rose in his life through sheer grit and perspiration. Now he launched Ubuntu Trust, a non-governmental organisation to serve the poor and needy. We carry a section on him.
Another is Eda Samuel Reddy. Who lost his beloved daughter – Spandana – over two year ago, who tragically ended her life. He was shaken, but not fallen by that tragedy. He launched foundation called Spandana, named after his daughter, to instill confidence and fight suicides among the youth, both boys and girls. Samuel Reddy, in the process inspired thousands of youth.
Excel India appreciates these two change makers.
