BRS former Rajya Sabha MP and Green India Challenge founder leader J Santosh Kumar celebrated his 48th birthday in Hyderabad on December 7, Saturday with a group of school children. A large number of people, well-wishers, party cadre and green activists too turned up to greet him on the occasion. Santosh took blessings from BRS working president KTR and party chief KCR at Errabelli farmhouse later in the day.
Santosh over the years has become a centre point for green activism within and outside BRS ambit. Has launched Green India Challenge urging people to plant trees on every conceivable occasion – right from birthdays to any happy event. For this, he says, inspiration came from KCR’s Harita Haaram, greenery campaign in Telangana. If others in the BRS work at political level, Santosh chose to spread the apolitical message, like promoting greenery, saving nature and environment.
Popular outside Telangana too
As part of this, Santosh took to camera three years ago and started posting photos of nature and wildlife, mainly birds every Sunday. These pics of birds draw a lot of appreciation, both for his lens work and the beauty of the objects of the photos, posted on X. Inspired by him, many commoners across Telangana have begun following him in their own ways. For example, an auto driver in Mahabubabad started growing green plants atop his vehicle.
Many people, including those in the public life have been posting on X pics of saplings planting. Santosh has plans to further his green mission in many ways on many fronts in the coming days. He has become popular not only in Telangana but also out of the state, at the national level. Recently, he received prestigious Sri Kalpataru award for his contributions to the green cause. We wish Santosh to celebrate many more happy birthdays!
