Forum for a Better Hyderabad in collaboration with WORLD RIVERS DAY, Canada, and in association with Civil Society Groups, Government City College, Hyderabad, Deccan heritage academy, JBR Architecture College,St. Patrick’s High School,, Oxford Grammar School, Himayatnagar, Sri sai Vidya Niketan Hyderabad organised a walk along the banks of Shamirpet Lake Outflow southern bund,Medchal Dist., Telangana commemorating the “World Rivers Day” @ 9.30am today 22.9.2024 (The 4th Sunday).
The programme was presided by Prof. Er. Veda Kumar Manikonda, National Governing Council Member, INTACH, New Delhi, said a press release.
Historian Dr.Dyawanavally Satyanarayana, Director, Telangana Tribal Museum, Shri Ravindra Reddy, Convenor ,Shameerpet Samrakshana committee, Shri Subhash Reddy,water harvesting expert, Shri Narahari, member of FBH, environmentalists , students , teachers and school management representatives graced the occasion. Shobha Singh, General Secretary, FBH welcomed the gathering.
Prof.Er. Veda Kumar Manikonda, chairman, FBH & National Governing Council Member , INTACH, New Delhi, apprised them that FBH has been celebrating World Rivers Day since three years in Telangana, India. This time scheduled at Shameerpet lake and he said that protecting rivers is everyone’s responsibility. He also emphasized that it’s our responsibility to keep our rivers clean. He emphasised that it doesn’t just rest on the Government alone but the civil society and organisations and the youth to take responsibility in sustaining efforts in protecting the rivers and water bodies against pollution in the world.
While explaining about the significance of Shamirpet Lake, he also praised that Lake as the best sunset point that 6th Nizam Mehboob Ali Pasha selected as best point around Hyderabad and made popular among his guests from all over the world during their visit Hyderabad and he also praised the beautiful rock formation around Shamirpet Lake.
Dyavanapally Satyanarayana apprised the Culture along the river krishna and Godavari and explained to students the significance of river water in people’s lives for drinking & cultivation. He explained the significance of rock shelters & paintings along the canal & around the lake which proves the existence of civilisation around the location through the carvings and inscriptions on it.
Ravindra Reddy, an activist in protecting Shamirpet Lake from pollution & serving agriculture downstream He was instrumental in advocating to bring Godavari river water into Shameerpet lake.
Subhash Reddy emphasised the significance of groundwater in all potential areas of the state and educated the students in working towards harvesting of rainwater. Narahari, an environmentalist expressed the need for students to inculcate love towards nature. Anil ,NGO, asked students to discharge the plastics. The photo exhibition impressed everyone. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by DHAT, representative Mr. Qhyzer Basha.
