Scientific Advisor to Indian Defence Minister Dr G Satheesh Reddy has joined Green India Challenge led by BRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar by planting a sapling in Hyderabad on September 26, Tuesday. This act, though of symbolism, goes a long way in telling the world that defence and environment go hand in hand. Dr Satheesh Reddy also known as present missile  man, after famed late resident Dr APJ Abdul Kamal.

“Honoured to have had the privilege of planting a sapling today with G Satheesh Reddy garu, the Scientific Advisor to @DefenceMinisterofIndia and the driving force behind India’s indigenous development of defence systems and technologies. As a visionary leader, he has played a pivotal role in the development of missiles, fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial and radar systems, reinforcing India’s posit ion as a global  power house,” said the MP on X.

Santosh has expressed his happiness over Dr Satheesh Reddy’s participation in his GIC, by planting a sapling. “His participation #GreenIndiaChallenge is a testimony to his commitment to our sustainable future. Let’s all  be responsible stewards of our planet,” tweeted MP Santosh, with a tagline of #EnvironmentFirst. Dr Satheesh Reddy is also involved with DRDO, at its hem in many capacities over the years.

DRDO, GIC have common ground

It’s interesting to know that DRDO (Defence Research and  Development Organisation) with which Dr Satheesh Reddy has a long association in various positions over the years – has a common ground with – Green India Challenge, MP Santosh founded six years ago. Though  DRDO is a hardcore defence establishment, it is deeply aware of its role as a stakeholder of India’s future – Sustainable development is key to today’s science and technology.

DRDO’s slogan – “Balasya Mulam, Vigyanam” (Science of source of strength) – has a connotation that environment is integral part of science. DRDO of India, based out of Hyderabad, has always been ahead in promoting green initiatives like plantation of trees, nurturing environment and nature. DRDO has found several new innovative technologies to promote sustainable livelihoods – protecting biodiversity and boosting clean energies.

DRDO is one of the wings of government that actively participated in Swaccha Bharat Mission – in all wings of defence ministry units. Some of the technologies invented and developed by DRDO. From rainwater harvesting to bio-gas plants to waste management, DRDO has innovated many technologies that benefit our country. Most of Defence ministry premises are full of greenery. DRDO’s clean air, clean water initiatives too are remarkable.
