Newly sworn in Mines, Geology and Information and Public Relations Minister Patnam Mahender Reddy assumed charges in Dr BR Ambedkar Secretariat in Hyderabad on August 30, Wednesday around noon. Chief Secretary Santi Kumari, IAS and officials and public leaders from his Ranga Reddy and adjoining areas attended in large numbers the function.
59 year old Mahender Reddy, currently a BRS MLC, is a senior politician and was a three time MLA in the combined Andhra Pradesh, in 1994, 1999 and 2008. And he won from Tandur assembly seat after Telangana formation in 2014 too. Mahender Reddy was the transport minister in the first term of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao‘s cabinet till 2018.
Mahender Reddy hails from a politically influential family -his uncle was late P Indra Reddy, a minister and several times MLA in AP. Now Indra Reddy’s wife Sabita Reddy is a minister in KCR’s Cabinet. Mahender Reddy’s brother Narender Reddy is BRS MLA from Kodangal. Mahender Reddy;s wife Sunitha Reddy is chairperson of Vikarabad zilla parishad now.
Mahender Reddy’s induction into the Cabinet is expected to serve BRS in Ranga Reddy and surrounding assembly constituencies. Mahender founded several educational institutions – three engineering colleges – and a medical sciences institution (Chevella) – in and around Ranga Reddy district.
I&PR officials greeted
I&PR special commissioner K Ashok Reddy, IAS and director B Rajamouli led the team of officials from their department who came to greet the new minister. I&PR’s other officials – additional director Nagaiah Kamble, joint director DS Jagan, CIE Radhakrishna, deputy directors Madhusudhan, Venkateswarlu, Hashmi, RI Ramulu, Telangana Media Academy secretary Venkateswara Rao were among those who greeted the minister.
Ministers Srinivas Goud, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and MP Ranjith Reddy and Mahender’s family members were present at the secretariat.
BRS MLAs Patnam Narender Reddy, Manchireddy Kishan Reddy, Prakash Goud, Kale Yadaiah, MLC Shambipur Raju, Telangana Media Academy chairman Allam Narayana too attended the charge taking function of Mahender Reddy. CM PRO Ramesh Hazari, and journalist union leaders Maruti Sagar, Basava Punnaiah and others too were among those who greeted the minister.
