President Draupadi Murmu, flanked by Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) paid glowing tributes to Pre-Independence era rebel Alluri Sitharama Raju, on his Quasqui centennial (125th) death anniversary celebrations on July 4,Tuesday. The year long celebrations were concluded at a function held at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy too was there. Alluri Sitharama Raju, born in 1898 in then Godavari district of Andhra and took to armed resistance against the Britishers to defend the rights of tribals of agency areas. He singled handed mobilized hundreds of tribals and attacked British army in Ramp area. Finally, he martyred while fighting the British soldiers.
President Murmu paid rich tributes to Alluri saying he played a great role in not just mobilizing tribal people of agency area, but also raising the against British rulers. “He is one of our proud freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the country,” said she. Murmu tried her hand in raising a bow and arrow presented to her by the organizers of the meeting.
Guv Telugu speech
Governor Tamilisai who spoke in Telugu speech, commended Alluri as one of the bright sons of India during the freedom struggle. “Many people laid down their lives for the cause of the freedom from the Britishers rule and what we got now is of their contribution,” said Dr Tamilisai. Union Minister Kishan Reddy who was also appointed as BJP Telangana president hours before the function too paid tributes to Alluri.
KCR recollects Alluri
CM KCR paid glowing tributes to Alluri Sitharama Raju saying he is one of the star freedom fighters from Telugu land. “We came to know of him through cine actor Krishna’s film, Alluri Sitharama Raju four decades ago. I’m happy that the Kshatriya Seva Samithi which is orgaizing this 125th commemoration of the great freedom fighter,” said the CM Before in the day, CM and Governor received President at Hakeempet air force station who cam by a special flight.
