Stage is set for the conduct Formula E championship in Hyderabad, first ever Indian city to host this prestigious global event on February 11, 2023, Saturday. Municipal Administration and IT Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) will be the chairman of the managing committee (MC) that oversees arrangements for this electric cars racing on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of the city. A GO (government order) No 465 issued on on July 11.
With this, Hyderabad becomes the only city from India and one among the 13 cities across the globe to be hosting Formula E racing. The 8 member MC includes Mahindra group chairman Anand Mahindra, Dilbagh Gill, CEO and team principal Mahindra racing, Telangana special chief secretary for municipal administration Arvind Kumar, who will also be its convener. A representative of FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) will also be on the panel.
Formula E is an electric powered single seater championship that started in 2014 and was granted World Championship status by FIA during the 7th season in 2020-21. Unlike Formula One which is hosted in the purpose built circuits, Formula E, also known as E-prix, races are held on the street circuits, to promote electric vehicles, and to get closure to racing fans.
In January 2022, the State government an Formula E officials have signed a letter of intent to host the event in Hyderabad, with Ace Urban Racing as the promoter partner along with FIA. The race will be held on a 2.37 km track around Hussain Sagar lake, covering Secretariat complex, through Lumbini Park. This event is a matter or pride as well as prestige for KCR led TRS government in Telangana, because Hyderabad will be on global map.
To take no stone unturned, the KTR led MC will make all arrangements and ensure that the event will be a success. Apart from MC, the government appointed a 15 member executive committee. While Arvind Kumar will be its chairman, other members are officials from different allied departments, like Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, police and others. Fans from all over the country and abroad are expected to come to Hyderabad next February.
