Congress MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy told Excel India on February 15, Tuesday that Congress will win comfortable majority in Punjab and form the next government. Uttam Kumar Reddy, former minister and former PCC president of Telangana spoke to us on phone from Gurdaspur in Punjab. He participated in a public meeting with Rahul Gandhi on February 14.
Uttam said both Punjab PCC president Navjot Singh Siddhu and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi were working together and that there was a positive response from the public to the party. Uttam Kumar Reddy has been campaigning for the party in four districts – Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Taran Taran.
The public meeting at Gurdaspur was attended by CM Channi and PCC president Navjot Singh Siddhu. Rahul Gandhi who is leading Congress campaigning in Punjab attacked both BJP and AAP for misleading people on the track of Congress rule in the state. “BJP is trying to blame Congress for drug abuse in the state, but it was they (in alliance with SAD regime) who allowed long back”.
However, Gandhi promised to tackle the drug problem which is there in Punjab, if Congress was sent back to power this time. Raghul Gandhi told people not to experiment with governance in Punjab which is a sensitive border state. “We (Congress) know Punjab like no others. We offer a government that takes care of interests of all, but not some sections like others,” said Rahul.
Punjab goes to a single phase elections on February 20. Rahul also targeted AAP saying the party leaders had no understanding of the basic problems confronting Punjab. “This is not a laboratory so that we experiment with political parties, one small mistake can cost us dearly,” said Rahul. Initial reports say Congress faces bigger threat from AAP.
PM Modi too addressed some public meeting on the same day and BJP’s alliance partner – Punjab Lok Congress leader and former CM Captain Amarinder – would provide a growth oriented rule, if elected.
