Several leaders of OBCs (Other Backward Classes) have congratulated and thanked BRS MLC and Bharat Jagrithi Samithi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha for her fight on the women reservation Bill. That Bill was passed by the parliament last week and is about to become law soon. They called on Kavitha at her residence in Hyderabad on September 23, Saturday and felicitated her.
The BC leaders include Rajya Sabha MPs R Krishnaiah, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Lok Sabha MP Netakani Venkatesh, MLCs L Ramana and B Venkateswarlu, Media Academy chairman Allam Narayana, Telangana BC Commission Chairman Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan, commission member Kishore Goud among others.
They all appreciated Kavitha’s relentless fight for the passage of women’s bill in the parliament for the last several months. “Kavitha has fought for the Bill at a time when everyone gave up hopes on it. Our OBC groups thank her for supporting our demand for a sub-quota for OBC women in the Bill. This will go a long way in pressing for social justice,” said Krishnaiah.
OBCs meeting on September 26
Ruling BRS will be holding a meeting of all OBC organisations at Jala Vihar in Hyderabad on September 26, Tuesday, to press for OBC sub-quota in the women reservations. They will also felicitate Kavitha for leading the agitation for women Bill as well as backing their demand for sub-quota. All elected representatives of local bodies, corporations and societies and women will be there.
BRS led by CM KCR too will be focusing on OBC quota in general and for a sub-quota in the women Bill soon. He will be taking up the issue in the coming elections. There are indications that the BJP wants to steal the thunder from the Opposition camp on the women bill and OBC issue. Congress led INDIA front is somewhat ambivalent on this issue which may turn deciding factor in the coming elections.
