Prof Subra Suresh gets IIT-H honorary doctorate

Prof Subra Suresh, president of NTU, Singapore has been conferred honorary doctorate at the 11th Convocation of Indian Institute of Technology -Hyderabad (IIT-H) held on the campus in Hyderabad on August 20, Saturday. Prof Suresh, an Indian-American bioengineer and materials scientist is a noted academician is with Singapore based Nanyang Technological Univesity (NTU) since 2018. 

IIT-H celebrated its 11th Convocation in the physical mode for the first-time post-pandemic in the gracious presence of Prof Subra Suresh,  as Chief Guest of the event.A total of 873 students are getting884 degrees (UG: 282, PG: 468, PhD: 134), with 4 Gold Medals & 32 Silver Medals. It is the highest number of graduates in a year so far, not only at IIT-H but also possibly at any second-generation IIT in India.

This number also includes the first-time graduating batch of our unique Interdisciplinary & Industry-oriented programs: Additive Manufacturing, Energy Science & Technology, E-Waste Resource Engineering & Management, Integrated Sensor systems,Polymers and Biosystems Engineering, and Smart Mobility.

IITHians will adore the specially designed Pochampalli Stoles this year too, as IITH’s Historical Tradition of getting connected to the Culture of the State of Motivating future leaders on this occasion with kind words, Dr B V R Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Board of Goverance, IIT-H, has declared the out-going students the graduates.

It was indeed a magnificent year of IIT Hyderabad being an entrant to Top-7 ahead of two 1st Gen IITs in ARIIA 2021 Ranking, a new department of Heritage, Science & Technology, new Centres of Excellence with NHAI& ICMR and the establishment of various state-of-the-art facilities that include Departmental, Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurial facilities.

Congratulating IITH graduateson occasion, Prof Subra Suresh, President, NTU Singapore, said,Never underestimate the power of one university, one individual, one idea, one act of courage, or one program to have a significant influence on local and global society.Contemplate, cultivate, and elevate your global and historical perspective with patience and compassion, always.

Combined with the strong education you have received from IIT Hyderabad, you will have an impact not just on your local community or country but on the entire humanity. To maximize your  power it is critical that your perspectives do not focus only on the individual but also on the collective, not just on the local community but equally on the implications of your actions on the world around you,” said Prof Subra Suresh.

Sharing his delight on this momentous occasion, Dr BVR  Mohan Reddy, Chairman, BoG, said, “As you step out of the precincts of this prestigious institute, you are launching yourself on a voyage of self-discovery. You will explore the luxurious portfolio of opportunities available to you as India steps into the Amrit Kaal of Independent history and co-creates AatmaNirbhar Bharat.

In the background of a dynamically shifting world scenario, the knowledge you have accumulated this far alone will not take you through life and bestow success. Inculcate the virtue of continuous learning. Your ability to derive learning from generic situations will be the key to your enduring success. In your voyage of self-discovery, I am sure you will encounter situations that make you uncomfortable; embrace them too! It is not always about winning; it is about learning & reinventing yourself continuously”, said Dr Reddy.
