Rama Krishna Sangem
BJP’s Telangana membership committee convener and former MLC N Ramchander Rao has hit the streets to boost the drive. He participated in BJP membership enrollment camps at several places in Hyderabad on October 6,Sunday, mostly in the morning hours. BJP teams have set up tables across the city to enroll people as primary members particularly morning walkers etc.
He along with Hyderabad central district president Gautham Rao was spotted at a street corner membership drive at Osmania University gate on Sunday morning.
The party has set a target of enrolling around 50 lakh members in the current drive, that began on September 18 and will last till October 15. This target has been fixed in view of the 73 lakh votes the party got in the state in Lok Sabha elections this June, at the rate of 70 per cent voters are members. However, so far the party is able to attract around 14 lakh people as members. This is slightly more than the earlier figure of around 11 lakh in Telangana.
Nadda nudge
Telangana BJP leaders got activated after party national president JP Nadda last week reviewed the drive in Hyderabad and expressed his unhappiness over the pace of enrollment. He felt that the party leaders are not doing enough to get as many people as possible as party primary members in Telangana. BJP aspires to become the number 1 party in the world in having primary members.
Ramachander as the convener of the drive told Nadda that recent heavy rains and the festival season are the reason for the slow pace of membership campaign. Union Minister G Kishan Reeddy and other top leaders of Telangana BJP were present at the Nadda review meeting. After Nadda’s nudge, the party leaders have intensified the drive not only in the city, but also in districts, including remote areas.
Nadda is expected to come to Hyderabad once again after Dasara festival to monitor the progress of the membership drive.
