Ravi Ankam, founder Editor-in-Chief and CEO of V6 News, Telugu news television channel, got “Game Changer” award for 2021 from medianews4u.com. Ravi was chosen in the category of South News Media. V6 News founded in Hyderabad a decade ago has been in the top rated news channels for long. Ravi, who spent considerable experience in print and TV journalism, is the founder editor and CEO of V6.
Owned by VIL Media Private Limited, V6 channel since inception has created ripples among Telugu news media for its distinct dialect and style that reflected Telangana language, accent and culture. In a glittering function held in Chennai on April 22, Friday, medianews4u.om presented the award to Ravi Ankam, who could not make it to the event. On his behalf, Shanker, a representative of V6 channel has collected the award.
In its citation, the host medianews4u.com complimented Ravi and his team, saying: “This award was given to CEO Ravi and his team at V6 for engaging Telugu news viewers over the last 10 years. For educating and bringing awareness among people about various issues of Telangana. For packing news in an entertaining format and breaking the monotony of broadcasting news media”.
Medianews4u.com, an initiative of Magic Square Entertainment Private Limited, Chennai, is an online media portal catering to the media fraternity viz TV channels, FM radio, cable industry, advertising agencies etc.
V6 has retained the top spot in the prime time slot in the Hyderabad market with 51.33 GRPs (gross rating points) during the week -13-22. Second spot claimed by TV9 with 32.6 GRPs under 15+ TG between 6 and 11 pm time band. followed by NTV at No 3 garnered 12.23 GRPs.
According to BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council)’s recent data, V6 news also bagged 2nd spot in the combined AP and Telangana market in the 15+ age category in prime time with 15.84 GRPs.
Ravi experimented with popularizing news among all sections of audience, through programmes like “Teenmar Varthalu” etc. V6’s digital and social media platforms are popular among Telugu speaking people across the world.
Asked by Excel India about his response to the Game Changer award, Ravi said: “I feel honoured and humbled by this award. I give credit to my entire team who made our channel popular through the years. I also think, this award goes to Telangana people who fought for identify of their language, culture and pride”. In the beginning, we had to fight hard to be different from the routine mainstream Telugu TV channels”.
